A crash involving a pickup and a big rig yesterday, March 16, 2017, resulted in two deaths and the temporary closure of US 97 about 2 miles South of Omak. State Troopers say it happened around 1:35 p.m. at the Armory Road intersection when the driver of a pickup truck tried to drive across the highway but was struck by the semi, which was driven by a 77-year-old Waterville man.
The pickup was struck by the larger truck ending up off the roadway. The truck ended up blocking both lanes of traffic forcing the road’s closure for several hours. The driver of the pickup was dead at the scene. A second person was transported to Mid-Valley Hospital where the victim died.
UPDATE: The names of the deceased have just been released this afternoon. The pickup driver killed at the scene was 75-year-old William Province of Okanogan. The passenger who died after being transported to Mid-Valley Hospital was 87-year-old Isabelle Province of Okanogan.
