SAFER Grant from FEMA awarded to Chelan Fire and Rescue for volunteer recruitment and training

Chelan Fire and Rescue, along with Chelan County Fire District 8 and Douglas County Fire District 4 have been awarded a 2016 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA) Grant — a grant called the Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant.

The SAFER regional grant provides for a full time Volunteer Firefighter Recruit and Retention Coordinator. This is a fully funded position with equipment, training and recruitment funding for up to 20 new volunteer firefighter recruits each year for the next four years.

The Grant Award according to the FEMA website is for $924,308 over the next four years.
