Sunday, Sep. 10, 2017, marked Real Life Lake Chelan’s 5th anniversary. The local church celebrated by announcing to a crowd of over 200 people who filled Campbells Resort’s meeting space that they plan to bring a new multi-purpose community center to the Lake Chelan Valley.

“We are attempting to build a community center that meets the needs of the community, as a gift to the community,” Real Life Church Pastor and Co-founder Kyle Plew stated.

The Community Center at Lake Chelan is planned for a 7-acre property on Anderson Road near Chelan Fruit and will be a 24,000-square-foot compound aimed at serving the underserved.

Space for the Lake Chelan Food Bank, a kid’s center, sports courts and even office space for start-up businesses is envisioned for the center. The multi-purpose space will double as a large community meeting room and the church’s chapel for Sunday services. An affordable preschool may also be housed at the center.

“It will be the home of Real Life Church,” Plew said referring to Sunday services which are currently held at the Performing Arts Center at Chelan High School. “For the most part, it will be available to other groups. We didn’t want a building that wasn’t being used all the time. We didn’t want to build a building that was just serving ourselves.”

Plew explained to the crowd that the space would not just be for religious purposes, but that he and his team hope it will serve as a space for compassion, service, wellness and connection. The auditorium will be the new home to Real Life Church and will be available for the community’s use as a venue and sports center with retractable carpeting that rolls up to reveal hardwood sports courts.

“There has never been a better time to be a person in need in the valley. There are so many groups that exist to help. The Community Center will be a hub for partnerships to help the community,” Plew explained, adding that he hopes the center will help to expand and aid the organizations that already serve the valley.

The team aims to raise $5.5 million for the project which will break ground in 2018. To donate to the Community Center at Lake Chelan or for more information, visit their website or Facebook Page.
