On Tuesday, April 11, 2017, Steve Varrelman, owner and operator of BTO Construction of Pateros, Washington, operates his excavator breaking ground for the new Pateros Sign located just two miles south of town below where the former sign burned to the ground in 2014 during the Carlton Complex Fires.
Many individuals and businesses have flocked to the cause offering time, materials, construction and fabrication at little or no cost to the Pateros Chamber of Commerce for reconstruction of the sign.
Those individuals and businesses include:
- Steve Varrelman – BTO Construction
- Eric Smith – Erlandsen and Associates Inc.
- Larry Trimm & Brent Yeadon– RSI Metal

- Bret Lamar – Lake Chelan Building Supply
- Shannon Seaford – Papa Murphy’s
- Brittney Jean – Singer, Song writer
- Bret Pitsinger, Clint Pierce and Forrest Harrison – VanDoren Sales, LLC
Construction is expected to be completed prior to the 2017 Apple Pie Jamboree. This year will be its 70th annual celebration taking place July 14-16, 2017 in Pateros, WA.
Construction is estimated to be between $10,000 to $20,000. Additional community help is still needed if you would like to donate, and donations will be accepted at any North Cascades Bank branch, with locations in Brewster, Chelan, Omak, Okanogan, Twisp, Wenatchee, East Wenatchee, Waterville and Grand Coulee.
