Author Betty L. (Sullivan) Wilsey tells us about living in Stehekin from 1955 thru 1986, and shares some of the stories with GoLakeChelan's Steve Byquist.
For some time, Betty (Sullivan) Wilsey and her brother Billy have had the dream of compiling their memories of growing up at Stehekin. A Handshake & A Thousand Dollars is the result - and it's a great collection of short stories that follows the life of the two, as eleven year old twins, who moved to Stehekin in 1955 after their father, while on a hunting trip, purchased a restaurant there.
The book is a 'fun read', full of short stories that are easy to relate to, and chronicle a time when there were only about 40 living at Stehekin.
Note: "Having watched Betty work on this project now for quite sometime, we have a new appreciation of what it takes to pen a book, without any previous experience." ~ Steve Byquist
Wilsey will sign books at Riverwalk Books Friday from 3-5pm.
The book is also available at the Chelan Museum, Wenatchee Cultural Center, and online at www.StehekinBook.com and also available from John and Patty Wilsey in Stehekin.
