The Lake Chelan Ladies Golf Club competition on Thursday, August 31 was “Par 3s plus 5 Others” with 25 players on the beautifully maintained Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course. The Lake Chelan Ladies always find some extra ways to make the game merrier, with Susie Martin in contention for the prize awarded in October. Members are also busy preparing for the September 14th Invitational, with final details that will be attended to at the meeting on September 7th.
The “Par 3s plus 5 Others” competition is the gross score of all par 3s plus 5 other holes of your choice less half handicap. Game winners for Division 1 were first place Candace Farnsworth (26.5) and second place April Talley (29.5). In Division 2, placing first was Joan Pierce (25.5) and second place was a 3-way tie between Joni Dedo, Karen Holst and Janet Kophs (27). Division 3 with only one place was Susie Martin (30). A lone Birdie was made by April Talley (#12), while Chip-ins went to April Talley (#14), Judy Johanson (#14), and Patty Myers (#15).
Next week’s competition on Thursday, September 7 is Monthly Medal with winning slots for low gross and net by division and fewest putts. Tee time is at 8:30 a.m. Please check in by 8 a.m. The September meeting will follow play.
Fun on the Course
Distance markers are a series of disks placed in the fairways of golf courses at 50, 100, 150, and 200 yards out from the spot of the marker to the center of the green. You will usually find these on par 4s and par 5s. Lake Chelan Municipal Golf Course uses a different marker for the 150 yard. It is a black and white striped pole in the fairway. Susie Martin was able to hit the “150 pole” twice in last week’s round, perhaps making her in line for a second “Crapola Award”.
The field limit is 108 golfers, but there is still room to participate, so contact Invitational Chairperson Sherry Fisk at (509) 393-9715 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. All entrants must be 21 years of age, and have an established USGA Handicap Index, maximum 40.3. “Let’s Par-Tee!” is the theme for this year’s 2017 Invitational to be held on September 14, 2017.
