The Historic Downtown Chelan Association is celebrating the largest Sip and Stroll event in the organization’s history. Sip and Stroll took place on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, and is an annual event held by HDCA which brings local wineries and downtown retailers together to offer wine tasting while shopping.
“The event went really well this year. We had the most attendees we’ve ever had and it was a really laid-back, fun crowd,” Executive Director for HDCA Jessie Simmons stated.
In total, HDCA sold 235 tickets for the event, which is an almost 100 ticket increase from previous years. According to Simmons, the funds raised during the annual event go back into the organization’s downtown events.
“This year, the money will go toward Small Town Christmas festivities and possibly also holiday lighting,” Simmons explained.
This year saw 12 retailers and 12 cider houses, breweries and wineries paired downtown. New retail stop Frenchie’s Flutes and Fleurs was filled to capacity with sippers who enjoyed wines poured by Tunnel Hill Winery. Newer winery, Castle Vineyards was paired with longtime downtown shopping hot spot, Main Street Gallery.
“Our goal is to create a vibrant community center that fosters a sense of community,” Simmons said of the event. “This event brings together some of Chelan’s greatest assets, all together in one space during one of the most beautiful seasons in Chelan,”
Retailers donated generous prizes to a gift basket which was filled with gift certificates, apparel, cider and even a growler from Stormy Mountain Brewery and Local Public House.
“The basket was won by Sue Ponsteen, but she has not stepped forth to claim her prize yet. If she hasn’t claimed it by Friday, we’ll draw again!” Simmons stated.
