UPDATE: March 18, 2017
New photos of live fire training in Manson this morning.
The Manson Fire Department, Chelan County District #5, is conducting a live fire training burn this morning, March 18, 2017. It will be located at the entrance to the “Reserve”, a new development on Winesap Ave in Manson.
Crews from neighboring districts in Orondo, Mansfield, Entiat, and Chelan were also invited to take part in the training. A safety briefing took place this morning and the first fire will be shortly after.
Firefighters are planning on doing fire attack scenarios until 10 a.m. They’ll take a short break and have some instruction/safety discussion prior to the final burns. The house is expected to be fully involved around 11 a.m., and crews will watch fire behavior and building failure. Training is expected to be done by 1 p.m.
“The training firefighters get from burning actual houses is unparalleled to containers or cement training center burns,”Chris Willoughby of Chelan County Fire District 5. “The fire behavior is very different, the way fire reacts to the surrounding weather is different, and the shape and layout of the structure manipulates fire behavior differently. This is why we try to train in actual houses when we can.”
that he think it is important for taxpayers to see how crews train, that the volunteers are great at what they do, and that fire responders do work like professionals.
