This weekend on July 15 and 16, the 2017 ChelanMan Multi-Sport Weekend takes over the South Shore of Lake Chelan beginning at Lakeside Park and along a stretch of Hwy 97A and Hwy 971. Each year, ChelanMan combines a number of athletic events from a first time triathlon (Try-a-Tri) to an Olympic Triathlon and Half Ironman, both of which are national qualifiers. There is a 5K, 10K and half marathon, sprint and youth Triathalon for kids 11-15 years old.

The Half Marathon begins on Saturday, July 15 at 7 a.m. and includes a 1,900 meter swim, followed by a 58.1 mile bike ride and a 13.1 mile run. The Olympic Triathalon begins at 7:30 a.m. with a 1,500 meter swim, a 24.8 mile bike ride and a 10K run (6.2 miles).

Half Ironman swimmers come in for the next stretch of the triathlon race.

With some 2,000 bikers and runners on US Hwy 97A and SR 971, residents and visitors are reminded to ‘Share the Road’ and be aware of possible traffic delays.

The 10K run and Half-Marathon will be held on both days starting at 7:15 a.m.

On Sunday, July 16, the Spring Triathalon begins at 8 a.m. and is an 800 meter swim, a 13.1 mile bike ride and 5K run (3.1 miles). the Try-a-Tri will begin at 8:20 a.m. and includes a 400 meter swim, 13.1 miles bike ride, and a 5K run (3.1 miles).

The Youth Triathalon begins Sunday from 8 – 9 a.m. and is a 400 meter swim, 13.1 mile bike ride and a 5K run (3.1 miles).

What is amazing about ChelanMan is its purpose. It was started in 2007 as a non-profit foundation by Julie Pittsinger and a group of local athletes, ChelanMan not only gives athletes a chance to compete, but the net profits are used to promote the arts, literature and wellness for the youth of the Lake Chelan Valley. For a look the multitude of programs that have benefited from this event, go to the ChelanMan website here, or read more below.
