On Thursday, April 18, 2017, The Chelan Tennis Team traveled to Omak for day one of the District 6 Tournament, the qualifier for the State Tournament.
On day one, the team played the quarterfinal matches of each bracket, and those who lost their quarterfinal had to play a consolation loser-out match as well.
Fortunately, all Chelan entries won their quarterfinal matches on Thursday, and will move on to the semifinals on Saturday, May 20,2017. A win in the semifinals will clinch a state berth, while a loss will require two consecutive wins to clinch third place and the last available state berth.
In boys singles, Bryce Robison defeated Ryan Marcolin of Oroville 6-0, 6-0.
In boys doubles, Henry Elsner and Rylan Anderson defeated Haley/White of Liberty Bell 6-0, 6-1.
Also in boys doubles, Collin Hendricks and Micah Larson defeated Carson/Friedlander of Lake Roosevelt 6-3, 6-1.
The closest match of the day for Chelan was a victory in girls doubles by Sierra Rothlisberger and Madeline Peebles over Terris/Wilson of Tonasket 7-6 (7-2), 6-2. In the see-saw first set, Tonasket held a 3-1 lead. Chelan won four in a row to take a 5-3 lead, and Tonasket then tied it up at 5-5. Sierra and Madeline eventually won in a tiebreaker 7-2, and jumped out to a quick lead in set #2 before closing it out.
Play begins on Saturday, May 20 in Omak at 10 a.m. at Omak High School (doubles) and at North Cascades Athletic Club (singles).
