Chelan Goats Softball opens with a win over Kittitas, but falls to Lynden Christian

On Saturday, March 18, 2017, the Chelan Goats Softball Team plays two games facing visiting Kittitas and Lynden Christian.

Softball Game 1: Katie Gleasman drives in four as Goats defeat Kittitas 19-1

Four runs that were batted in from Katie Gleasman helped lead the Chelan Goats past Kittitas 19-1 on Saturday. Gleasman drove in runs on a single in the first and a home run in the fourth. 

Kittitas took an early lead in the first inning, and an error scored one run for Kittitas.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Goats tied things up at one-one. Katie Gleasman drove in a run when she singled in the first inning. Then, the Goats took the lead for good with two runs in the second inning. Mia Boardner hit into a fielder’s choice, but two runs scored.

Goats scored nine runs in the fourth inning including a double by Katanna Kelling, a error, a passed ball , a groundout by Ashley Oswald, and a home run by Gleasman.

Chelan’s pitcher Taylor Sams earned the win for Goats. She threw five innings, surrendering one run, four hits, striking out two, and walking one.

Kittitas pitcher Madigan Webster took the loss for their team, as she went four innings, giving up 19 runs, 11 hits, and striking out two. Piper Williams led Kittitas with two hits in three at bats.

Home runs for Goats came when Gleasman homered in the fourth inning, and Julia Horlebein homered in the third inning.

The Goats had 11 hits in the game with  Gleasman, Kelling, and Sams each collecting multiple hits for Chelan. Horlebein and Gleasman each drove in four runs. 

Softball Game 2: Goats fall in back-and-forth affair against Lynden Christian

Even though the Chelan Goats and Lynden Christian both had their opportunities, it was Lynden Christian (LC) that eventually prevailed 17-16 on Saturday. Chelan was down 17-16 in the bottom of the seventh inning when LC pitcher Amy Jansma induced Chelan’s Julia Horlebein to hit into a fielder’s choice with one run scored.

Horlebein collected four hits, singled in the second, singled in the third, singled in the fourth, and tripled in the fifth and in the seventh innings.

Lynden Christian took an early lead in the second inning as an error scored two runs for LC. Next, the 
Goats scored seven runs in the fourth inning. This was Chelan’s big inning and was driven by a home run by Katie Gleasman, a single by Horlebein, a triple by Jessie Oules, and a single by Sierra Shively.

LC came back and scored seven runs in the sixth inning. LC was driven by a single by Hollie Scott, a passed ball , a groundout by Emmalee Bailey, a single by Tori Bajema, and a error.

LC collected 13 hits in total as their players Hollie Scott, Ellie Vanderveen, Maggie, and Kya Leven each collected multiple hits in the game.

The Chelan Goats had 20 hits in the game. Julia Horlebein, Sierra Shively, Ashley Oswald, Katie Gleasman, Lexie Gleasman, Katanna Kelling, and Jessie Oules each collected multiple hits in the game.
