2018 Smart Choices Scholarship Program applications will be accepted November 1 – April 1.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), Dairy Farmers of Washington, and Les Schwab Tires are pleased to announce the 6th Annual Smart Choices College Scholarship.  The scholarship recognizes one female and one male high school student for their achievements in athletics/activities, the community, and the classroom with a $5,000 college scholarship to the college or university of their choice.

In addition to the two $5,000 scholarship winners, eight finalists will receive $1,000 scholarships.

In addition to a series of background questions, each applicant will be required to write an essay or provide a personal statement video about “How you plan to use your education to benefit others.”

The judging criteria is based on:

  • 35% athletic/activity excellence
  • 35% academic achievement
  • 15% leadership
  • 10% citizenship/community service
  • 5% on originality/creativity of the student’s essay or video

Applicants are able to save partially completed applications and return at a later date to update their information. All applications will be locked on April 1, 2018 when the application window closes.

High School seniors are encouraged to apply online at wiaa.com/SmartChoices. For more information, email smartchoices@wiaa.com.
